“now that’s just sexy”….
that’s what bob ebendorf had to say about this piece. probably one of the greatest compliments i’ve ever gotten about a ring.
here’s the progression of this ring…..
first: the main inner ring was made
second: i cut each little individual tube to the same size
third: each little tube was soldered on to the main ring
fourth: i had a cigarette..even though i don’t smoke

sterling silver–wax
it’s a ring that comes apart. wear it solo or choose a topper and lock it on. this particular topper is sterling silver with modelling wax inside. one ring…so many possibilites.

sterling silver–cotton–grass stain
stains can be pretty. and it smells good. the inside of the band is textured, reminiscent of grass.

sterling silver–steel–enamel–various sizes and colors
yeah..so i’m obsessed with enamelling washers lately. i bought a ton of binder clips from office max awhile ago..thinking that i would end up using them for something..don’t ask. anyhow, instead of actually using them i was inspired by their design. when you squeeze the steel part together you can detach it from the black clip part. anyhow..i thought it would be neat to have a ring that was springy like that..that you could squeeze to unhook from the washers..and switch out different colors. unfortunately..the properties of spring steel and sterling silver are pretty different…the silver is too soft to hold that kind of springiness. so…instead…for these pieces the silver is wrapped around the sides of the washer to hold it snugly. hmmmm….maybe i shouldn’t have tried to explain that. oh well. and yes…i could probably use a manicure..i know.

sterling silver
i made this ring by melting down some of my sterling silver scraps into a blob. i then forged the blob out with a forging hammer. the hammer marks reminded me of how mountains are represented on a topographical map…hence the cheesy name.

sterling silver–airline tubing–ball bearing—NFS
i purchased some airline tubing awhile ago from the aquatic store, “denizens of the deep”. it’s a really neat store which i never would have gone in except for the fact that someone had accidentally locked my keys in my car. while i was waiting for rescue i went into every store in the strip mall. the blue color of the tubing intrigued me so i bought some and brought it back to my studio. it’s been sitting around for a couple of months now. the top of the ring is just little pieces of the tubing cut up and smashed together inside the setting. the band is a larger piece of the blue tubing that connects to two silver pieces of tubing coming off of the back. i filled the ring part with ball bearing to keep it rigid so the tubing doesn’t collapse. overall, it has a cellular feel to it….at least to me, but i also own a book called “biology for dummies”…which is a great read if you need to fall asleep fast. sorry sar.
