sterling silver–enamel–steel
a pair of earrings from a series of earrings that i did by firing enamel onto steel. in this particular pair there are two different shades of blue that have been fired on, giving them a bit of variation.
i just joined etsy.com so everything posted on here now will also be posted on there. please come and check out my store

not sure exactly how i feel about this piece. i’m excited by the ideas it has given me though. i’m going to be making more of these that have a bit more of a pattern to them. how it was made: a base of wax was put down on the inside of the ring, then a layer of epoxy was poured on top of that, once the epoxy hardened i drilled holes randomly and then filled them in with plaster. it’s kind of mesmerizing to wear it; my brain is constantly trying to find a familiar pattern within the dots.

sterling silver–size 6
“now that’s just sexy”….
that’s what bob ebendorf had to say about this piece. probably one of the greatest compliments i’ve ever gotten about a ring.
here’s the progression of this ring…..
first: the main inner ring was made
second: i cut each little individual tube to the same size
third: each little tube was soldered on to the main ring
fourth: i had a cigarette..even though i don’t smoke

sterling silver–steel–enamel–various sizes and colors
yeah..so i’m obsessed with enamelling washers lately. i bought a ton of binder clips from office max awhile ago..thinking that i would end up using them for something..don’t ask. anyhow, instead of actually using them i was inspired by their design. when you squeeze the steel part together you can detach it from the black clip part. anyhow..i thought it would be neat to have a ring that was springy like that..that you could squeeze to unhook from the washers..and switch out different colors. unfortunately..the properties of spring steel and sterling silver are pretty different…the silver is too soft to hold that kind of springiness. so…instead…for these pieces the silver is wrapped around the sides of the washer to hold it snugly. hmmmm….maybe i shouldn’t have tried to explain that. oh well. and yes…i could probably use a manicure..i know.
